Chapter 29
Layla involuntarily clenched her fists upon hearing Jenna’s words.
Her mind replayed the painful scene from when she had divorced Seth.
Back then, she couldn’t handle the sudden betrayal from the man she had loved for four years. Even her son, the child that she had fought so hard to bring into this world, no longer wanted
her.
She had been on the verge of falling apart.
It was Jenna who had found her during that time and completely shifted her perspective on her marriage.
Jenna had explained that she had chosen Layla because of her intelligence and beauty. From the moment Layla was selected to join the Parker Group, she was meant to be a shield for Clarissa.
So, rumors began to spread that Layla was the mistress of Seth within two months of working as Seth’s secretary.
She thought Seth would clear things up, but instead, he chose to remain silent.
At the time, Layla believed that Seth remained silent because he liked her.
He had always been so cold and distant with others, but he had treated her with kindness. He would drink for her at social events, take her to parties, and send her gifts under various company pretexts.
Layla was way too naive that time. She thought these were signs of his clear favoritism.
So when she got pregnant and Seth said he was willing to marry her, she had agreed without hesitation.
She thought they were both invested in their relationship, that they were moving forward together.
But when she heard Jenna’s words, Layla finally understood the whole picture. Seth’s silence wasn’t out of love. It was because he needed the world to know they were in a relationship.
Only then could the focus on Clarissa be diverted onto Layla.
When Layla learned the truth, it felt like a hammer had struck her heart.
She could accept that Seth didn’t love her, but she couldn’t bear the fact that she had always been just a tool he used.
Back then, Layla had thought that if that was the case, then she would go all out. She wanted to take her son and never let Seth see him again.

But what she hadn’t expected was that her son whom she had raised with her own hands would turn his back on her. He had even said that he wanted Clarissa to be his mother. The double blow had nearly destroyed Layla.
She knew her son was only three years old and that he didn’t have independent thoughts yet. His sudden change of heart was clearly the result of someone manipulating him.
And that person was none other than her so–called “good–hearted” mother–in–law, who pretended to help take care of the child.
It was never about helping with the child. The real goal was to drive a wedge between them.
It turned out that all of this had been carefully planned from the very beginning. And she had been completely in the dark.
Thinking back on it now, Layla could still feel the sharp pain in her chest.
The pain of being betrayed by the people she loved most was something she could never forget in her lifetime.
Even after leaving the Parker family, she still had nightmares.
Layla slowly regained her composure and turned her cold, piercing gaze on Jenna.
Layla said in a steady voice, “Jenna, don’t push me too far. Otherwise, I wouldn’t hesitate to expose the truth to the world. I was once married to Seth. He abandoned his wife, who stood by him through thick and thin, for another woman, and even took away her beloved son.”
“If you dare,” Jenna spat, her teeth grinding in anger.
“I might do it one day. But that depends on your sincerity, Jenna,” Layla replied with a mocking smile.
Jenna’s face twisted with fury. “Layla, everything Seth did for you was to protect Clarissa. He never loved you. Don’t even think about getting back with him.”
Layla let out a bitter laugh. “Don’t worry, Jenna. Even if every man in the world were to die, I would never be with your son. He’s simply not worthy.”
Jenna snarled, “You’d better stick to that. Ben is in your class, but don’t even think about trying to win him back. To Ben, you’re just a wicked woman who had abandoned him. He’ll never accept you, so you should just let go of that hope.”
