Chapter 30
Layla couldn’t believe that Jenna, who had once paraded her supposed kindness in front of the
media, could harbor such a vicious heart.
“You really won’t know someone’s true colors until you face them,” Layla thought.
Layla glanced at Jenna’s contorted expression and raised an eyebrow, her tone calm but cutting. “You’ve lived most of your life, yet you still don’t understand the bond between a mother and her child? If I decide to take Benjamin back, I assure you no one can stop me.”
She added, “If you doubt that, feel free to try.”
“Layla, don’t you dare!” Jenna hissed.
Layla replied coldly, “If you or Clarissa disrupt my life again, you’ll see exactly how far I can go.”
Jenna faltered at Layla’s warning, her earlier bravado dissolving.
She knew Benjamin might appear close to her and Clarissa, but deep down, he hadn’t let go of Layla.
If Benjamin ever learned the truth about what happened back then, he would return to his mother without hesitation.
And with Clarissa unable to have children, Benjamin was the Parker family’s only heir. She couldn’t risk that.
Jenna’s chest tightened with frustration. The Layla who once treated her with utmost respect was now sharp and unrelenting.
She had never imagined the orphan she once sponsored would grow into such a formidable opponent
But she never expected that after just a few years, Layla had become so shrewd, and had completely turned the tables on her.
Biting down hard, Jenna spat, “Layla, let’s both take a step back, I’ll leave you alone, but you’d better stay away from Seth. If you try to pursue him again, don’t blame me for turning against you.”
Layla let out a wry smile and said, “From the moment I left the Parker family, I never intended to have anything to do with you again. If Seth hadn’t kept seeking me out, I wouldn’t even want to see his face. So, do me a favor and keep your son and daughter–in–law in check. If they keep bothering me, I won’t hesitate to reclaim what’s rightfully mine.”
Jenna was at a loss for words. She knew that if Layla so much as lifted a finger, both Seth and Benjamin might fall under her sway.

They were the Parker family’s future, their only hope. She couldn’t let this woman destroy everything.
Her thoughts turned to the ominous prophecy a master of horoscope had once shared with her. As long as Layla was in their lives, the men in the Parker family would face ruin. Jenna didn’t dare to put her son’s and grandson’s lives at risk.
Furious and defeated, Jenna grabbed her belongings and stormed out of the office.
As she passed the classroom, she spotted Benjamin.
“Ben!” she called, waving him over.
Benjamin’s eyes widened in surprise. He ran to her side, looking up with curiosity. “Grandma, what are you doing here?”
Jenna crouched down, her eyes misting with tears as she gazed at him. “Grandma couldn’t bear the thought of you being motherless. I wanted Layla to reconcile with you, but she refused even after I practically begged her on my knees.”
She continued, “She said her new boyfriend doesn’t want to raise the child of another man. My poor boy, why must your life be so hard?”
She pulled Benjamin into her arms, stroking his head tenderly.
Benjamin always trusted Jenna implicitly.
Hearing her words, his heart filled with sadness, but he kept his face proud and defiant.
He said, “Don’t cry, Grandma. She was the one who abandoned me. I’ll never acknowledge her, not in this lifetime. I only have Dad and you. When Mommy Clarissa marries Dad, she’ll be my real mom.”
Jenna wiped her tears and smiled at him. “That’s the spirit, my good boy. I’m sure Clarissa will treat you well. Now, go back to class, and Grandma will head home.”
After Jenna left, Benjamin returned to his seat. His eyes were red. He clenched his fists tightly as Layla’s supposed rejection echoed in his mind,
So, she didn’t want him because of her new family.
Just then, Layla walked into the classroom with a bright smile on her face. “Hi, everyone! We’ll have visitors observing today’s lesson, and it’ll affect the teachers‘ evaluations. So, let’s all do our best and be proactive, okay?”
Hearing this, Benjamin’s lips curled into a mischievous smirk.
